At Kirkoswald CE Primary School, our school vision drives our curriculum, allowing children to develop physically, spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, morally and socially. We aim for our R.E. curriculum to promote knowledge, reflection and understanding of the beliefs of people from a variety of faiths and cultures. Our school’s curriculum is rooted in a strong Christian ethos and this is reflected in the R.E. curriculum which includes studying Christian values, festivals, traditions and teachings from the Bible. We aim to provide children with a deep understanding of the culture and beliefs of the Christian church, and to connect with our local church community, through opportunities to learn about and participate in festivals such as Harvest, Advent, Christmas, Mothering Sunday and Easter. We recognise the vital importance of children learning to understand and respect people from a variety of cultures and faiths, and through our R.E. curriculum, we provide opportunities for children to explore other faiths and world views such as Islam and Buddhism. Through hands-on experiences with resources (such as those from CDEC) and school visits and visitors, children can gain a deeper understanding and respect for their own culture and the culture and beliefs of others. Kirkoswald CE Primary School is a unique setting with a unique school community, with whom the children work alongside to become active citizens in effort to 'be the best that they can be'.
