Art and Design
At Kirkoswald C of E Primary School, our intent is that every child will discover their inner artist. Art and Design is celebrated as a creative tool which we can use to communicate ideas, express responses and connect to the world around us. As pupils progress through the school, they will be given the opportunity to explore a range of artistic skills and techniques to use whilst developing their own personal style as an artist. Children will become confident and proficient in a variety of techniques including drawing, painting, sculpting, as well as other selected crafts e.g. weaving, printing and collage.
Children will develop an appreciation of the arts and be inspired by works from both world renowned and local artists, designers and craft makers. By learning about a wide range of artists and their work children can deepen their cultural understanding, apply their critical thinking skills and develop their visual language. Children will be encouraged to share their responses and interpretations so that they can realise that a single image may have multiple meanings. In KS2 children begin to record their responses, understanding and practise new skills in their own personal art journal.
